Maple Versions

You can access the power of the Maple computation engine through a variety of user interfaces: the Standard Worksheet, the Command-line version, the Classic Worksheet, custom-built Maplet applications, and the Maplesoft™ Graphing Calculator.

Maple 2016 provides users with two worksheet interfaces. Both have access to the full mathematical engine of Maple 2016 and take advantage of the new functionality in Maple 2016.

By default, worksheets open in the enhanced and more modern Standard Worksheet. The Classic Worksheet, available on certain platforms (see below), has the traditional Maple worksheet look and uses less memory.

If your system has less than the recommended amount of physical memory, it is suggested that you use the Classic Worksheet version of Maple 2016. For system requirements, refer to the Install.html file on your installation disc, or refer to the Maple web site http://www.maplesoft.com and search on "Maple 2016 System Requirements".

Worksheet Compatibility Issues

Standard Worksheet

The Standard Worksheet contains the full-featured interface. To access the Standard Worksheet, click the Maple 2016 icon. For example, using Windows:

•

From the Start menu, select All Programs>Maple 2016>Maple 2016.

Classic Worksheet

The Classic Worksheet provides a basic worksheet environment for older computers with limited memory.

Note: The Classic Worksheet is available on 32-bit Windows platforms. To access the Classic Worksheet, click the Classic Worksheet icon. For example, using Windows:

•

From the Start menu, select All Programs>Maple 2016>Classic Worksheet Maple 2016.

Command-line Version

The Command-line version does not include graphical user interfaces features, but this method is recommended when solving very large complex problems or using scripts for batch processing.

To access the Command-line version in Macintosh, use the maple command.  In Windows, use the cmaple command.  For more information on the Command-line version, including Command-line options, see maple. Alternatively, to access the Command-line version using Windows, click the Command-line version icon.

•

From the Start menu, select All Programs>Maple 2016>Command-line Maple 2016.

Maplet Applications

The Maplet User Interface Customization system allows you to create windows, dialogs, and other visual interfaces that interact with a user to provide the power of Maple. Users can perform calculations or plot functions without using the Standard Worksheet interface.  A Maplet application is a collection of elements including, but not limited to, windows and their associated layouts, dialogs, and actions. To create Maplet applications, you can use the Maplets package or the Maplet Builder.

•

For information and examples, see the Maplets and MapletViewer help pages.

To view examples of built-in Maplet applications, see the interactive tutors in the Student[Calculus1] package.

Maplesoft Graphing Calculator

The Maplesoft Graphing Calculator is a convenient calculator using Maple technology. It is available as part of your Maple installation (Windows® only).

•

From the Start menu, select All Programs>Maple 2016>Maple Calculator.
