The AI Assistant in Maple allows you to leverage LLMs in meaningful and practical ways that increase your productivity while preserving the accuracy of your mathematical computations. It makes you substantially more productive, especially when doing unfamiliar or complex tasks in Maple.

Here are some examples of tasks you can ask the AI Assistant to do:

  • Give me the command for solving a system of linear equations
  • Provide the Maple code to plot a parametric spiral
  • Generate a short explanation of eigenvalues for students in an introductory linear algebra class
  • Show the Taylor series of sin(x) to order 5, and give me the Maple command that does this
  • Write a procedure to apply the trapezoid rule to approximate an integral
  • Generate a document that presents five practice questions on differential using the chain rule, and starts with a worked example
  • How can I improve the explanation of combinations vs permutations in the current document?
Features of the AI Assistant

The Maple AI Assistant provides a seamless workflow that makes it easy to move information and results between the Assistant and your Maple work.

  • Enter your queries in plain language, and continue the conversation to refine your results as needed
  • Maple, not the AI, is used for computations where appropriate
  • Your active Maple document, or the portion you highlight, is automatically used to provide context to your requests so that you do not have to enter the information as part of your query.
  • Responses can include text, mathematical expressions, and Maple code, and can be inserted into your active document at the click of a button, where they behave like standard Maple content and can be edited using Maple's tools.
  • You can choose between small, medium, and large language models. The small model gives the fastest results and consumes fewer credits, and is a good choice for simpler questions. The large model is best when the task is more complex and is likely to require giving the AI more sophisticated directions.
