Math Matters in Design
By Paul Goossens
"Many call packages like Maple "spreadsheets on steroids" referring to the depth and speed of the math solvers. This is a gross oversimplification as the fundamental paradigm of these systems is substantially different from that of spreadsheets and most other packages used by engineers to do math calculations. These interactive math systems are becoming increasingly important as daily productivity tools for engineers of all flavors for some very important reasons: do more in less time; reduce risk and design costs; make innovation happen; capture and reuse engineering knowledge."
