What are quaternions, and can they be implemented in Maple?
This video will illustrate some of the basic properties of quaternions, and show how they can be implemented and manipulated in Maple's DifferentialGeometry package, and in Douglas Harder's Quaternions package, an add-on available from the Maplesoft Applications Center.
One use for quaternions, and apparently an important one, is the rotation of objects in R3. We will illustrate this usage, and compare it to approaches via Rodrigues' formula, and rotation matrices.
