New Features in Maple 16: Clickable Math 3.0

Discover the Next Phase in Math Software Usability!
For years, Maple has led the way in making math software easy to use. With its collection of Clickable Math tools, including palettes, interactive assistants, context-sensitive menus, tutors, and more, Maple has set the standard for making it easy to learn, teach, and do mathematics. Now, Maple 16 raises the bar even higher, introducing new, innovative ways to explore mathematics.

Introducing Drag-to-Solve™ Solve your equations step-by-step simply by dragging terms to where you want them to be Easily take complete control over each individual step of your calculation Let Maple apply the appropriate addition, subtraction, division, or multiplication operation to both sides of your equation, to avoid mechanical errors Keep the full record of steps produced by Maple to document your work Introducing Smart Popups Select operations to apply to just one part of your equation or mathematical expression, leaving the rest unchanged Preview the result of the operation before going ahead Explore your expression to deepen your understanding of the problem. Use Smart Popups to easily determine if your subexpression can be factored, what its plot looks like, what mathematical identities could be applied, and more.

"Maple 16 provides elegant new tools which allow teachers and students to solve mathematical problems in small steps, a process which is so important when students are first learning complex mathematics. The new Smart Popups and Drag-to-Solve tools even suggest possible next steps, and offer a preview of the effect the chosen operation would have. These tools help students learn mathematics through guided experimentation in an environment in which they cannot perform an invalid operation. Maple 16 also offers a large number of Math Apps that provide interactive illustrations of a wide range of pure and applied mathematics, saving teachers the need to do the programming themselves. Plus, they’re fun to play with!"

Solve a trigonometric identity using Smart Popups:

Watch the video, or see the steps below:

Select the expression, from the output expression. The Smart Popup window is automatically displayed. From the previewed choice of operations, select  Trig Identities  , then select the appropriate Trigonometric Identity. The results are returned to your document.

Solving a linear equation using Drag-to-Solve:

Watch the video, or see the steps below:

Drag   from the right side of the equal sign to the left side. A Smart Popup window is displayed, previewing the results of this manipulation. Click on the Smart Popup window to confirm this operation. Next, in the resulting output equation, drag -7 from the left side of the equation to the right side. Click on the Smart Popup window to confirm this operation. Drag and drop the factor of , in front of , to the right side of the equal sign. Click on the Smart Popup window to confirm this operation.
