Maintaining consistent product quality for thin web materials is a complex balance that depends on the capabilities of the web handling machine, the web material properties, and how they both interact. Process engineers can apply speed and tension control techniques to manage the flow of the web material through the manufacturing and handling steps for paper, foils, plastics, non-wovens and many other thin web materials. Developing and testing the control strategies is much simpler when using a virtual simulation platform such as MapleSim to narrow down the control decisions. Once a virtual model is created, it can be used to quickly run multiple operating scenarios and select the machine setpoints for the required outcome, reducing the time spent testing on production equipment.
