Student[NumericalAnalysis][MatrixDecompositionTutor] - factor a matrix

 Calling Sequence MatrixDecompositionTutor(A) MatrixDecompositionTutor()

Parameters

 A - (optional) Matrix; a square matrix to be factored

Description

 • The MatrixDecompositionTutor command launches a tutor interface that takes the matrix A and factors it according to the specified method.
 • A Matrix Editor window allows users to edit the matrix easily within the tutor.
 • If A is not provided when the tutor is launched, a default matrix is used instead.
 • Possible factorizations include:
 – LU
 – PLU scaled
 – LU tridiagonal
 – LDU
 – Cholesky
 – LDLt

Notes

 • The matrix A must be an $\mathrm{nxn}$ matrix, with $1\le n$ and $n\le 6$.
 • There are two digit controls in the tutor.  The Digits option controls the number of digits kept during floating-point computations, and the digit precision option controls only the number of digits to which final results are rounded in the maplet display window. The digit precision option has no effect on the output returned from the maplet upon exit.
