linalg(deprecated)/charpoly - Maple Help

linalg(deprecated)

 charpoly
compute the characteristic polynomial of a matrix

 Calling Sequence charpoly(A, lambda)

Parameters

A - square matrix lambda - name or algebraic expression

Description

 • Important: The linalg package has been deprecated. Use the superseding command LinearAlgebra[CharacteristicPolynomial], instead.
 - For information on migrating linalg code to the new packages, see examples/LinearAlgebraMigration.
 • The function charpoly computes the characteristic polynomial of the matrix $A=\mathrm{det}\left(I\mathrm{\lambda }-A\right)$, where I is the identity matrix and n is the dimension of A.
 • The command with(linalg, charpoly) allows the use of the abbreviated form of this command.

 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{linalg}\right):$
 > $A≔\mathrm{matrix}\left(3,3,\left[1,2,3,1,2,3,1,5,6\right]\right)$
 ${A}{≔}\left[\begin{array}{ccc}{1}& {2}& {3}\\ {1}& {2}& {3}\\ {1}& {5}& {6}\end{array}\right]$ (1)
 > $\mathrm{charpoly}\left(A,x\right)$
