## 5.15 Sorting Questions

### Description

The Sorting question type is an interactive tool used to re-arrange answers in the correct order (for example, smallest to largest).

Question Designer

Student may receive partial credit for having a partially correct response.

### Instructions

To create a Sorting question:

1. From the Class Homepage, click Content Repository in the top menu.
1. From the Create New drop-down menu, select Question/Text.
1. The Question Designer screen appears:
• Enter a title for the question under the Question Name panel.
• Enter the question in the Question Text.
1. Click Response Area ().
1. In the Edit Response Area dialog:
1. Under Choose Question Type, select Sorting.
1. Weighting: specify the weight of this response area in the overall question. (By default, the Weighting is set to 1).
1. The default is set to three items. If you would like more than three items, click Add Item.
1. In the correct order, enter the information you wish to have sorted in the text boxes provided.
1. (Optional) If you wish to re-order the text boxes, use the move () icon.
1. (Optional) Width (px): specifies the size (original width) of the item being sorted.
1. (Optional) Height (px): specifies the size (original height) of the item being sorted.
1. (Optional) Background color: specifies the color of the item being sorted.
1. Click OK.
1. Click Save to save the question.
1. On the Question Summary pane:
1. Click Save & Close to save the question.

### Example: Creating a Sorting Question

1. From the Class Homepage, click Content Repository in the top menu.
1. From the Create New drop-down menu, select Question/Text.
1. The Question Designer screen appears:

• Enter the following Question Name: Fractions
• Enter the following for Question Text: Order these fractions in increasing order (from least to greatest).

1. Click Response Area ().
1. In the Edit Response Area dialog:
1. Under Choose Question Type, select Sorting.
1. Weighting: specify the weight of this response area in the overall question. (By default, the Weighting is set to 1).
1. Click Add Item twice. (This means you have a total of five text boxes).
1. Enter the following information in the text boxes. Important: Ensure that the responses are in the correct order.
• 1/8
• 1/4
• 4/8
• 3/4
• 8/8
1. Width (px): specify the width of the item to 50.
1. Height (px): specify the height of the item to 100.
1. Click OK.

1. Click Save and then click Preview to see the question, as shown in Figure 5.56 below.
