Adding a Port to a CAD Subsystem
In order to connect a CAD subsystem to Multibody components, you must add a port to the CAD subsystem. This is done by attaching a coordinate system (Coord) to the part in either the Import CAD or Feature Detect windows.
To add a port to a CAD subsystem:
In either the Import CAD or Feature Detect window, select the part you want to add the port to.
Orient the part to see the feature you want to attach the Coord to.
To orient the shape, you can rotate, pan, or zoom into the part in the CAD Workspace.
Click Coord (
) and then place the pointer over the part.
Note: The pointer changes its appearance when it is over certain features (for example a corner or an arc). See the table following this procedure for details.
Click on the feature you want to add the Coord to.
(Optional) Set properties for the Coord. For example, it is recommended you give the Coord a descriptive name to make it (and the port) easier to identify. See Setting Coord Properties for details.
Click Set and Return (
When you return to MapleSim, the CAD subsystem and all of its instances will have a new port that corresponds to Coord you added.
The pointer is over a surface. The Coord will placed on the highlighted surface, at the center of the crosshair.
The pointer is over a corner. The Coord will be placed on the corner, at the center of the X.
The pointer is over a vertex. The Coord will be placed on the vertex.
The pointer is over the circumference of a circle or circular arc. The Coord will be placed at the center of the circle
