Changing the Icon for a CAD Subsystem
You can change the icon for a CAD subsystem in the Feature Detect window after the CAD subsystem has been created. Do this if the icon is not clear or if you want to change the positions of the ports on the CAD subsystem icon.
To change the icon for a CAD subsystem:
Drag the CAD subsystem onto the Model Workspace, and then double-click on it.
Orient the part in the CAD Workspace to the desired view by rotating, panning, or zooming.
Note: The view determines what image will be used for the icon as well as the position of the ports on the icon. For details on port positioning, see Port Positioning Details on this page.
Click Capture Icon Image (
Click Accept and Return (
), and then click OK.
All instances of the CAD subsystem in the Model Workspace and the Hierarchy will be updated with the new icon and port positions.
Port Positioning Details
The ports on a CAD subsystem are placed depending on their position with respect to the center of mass of the part when the icon image is captured. The following figures illustrate this by taking icon images of the same part in two different orientations and showing the resulting CAD subsystem icons.
In the following figure, the part is oriented with both of its Coords (A and B) to the left of the center of mass of the part. When the part is converted to a CAD subsystem, its both ports are placed on the left side of the CAD subsystem.
The following figure shows the same part, but this time it is oriented so that Coord A is to the left of the center of mass and Coord B is to the right of the center of mass. When the part is converted to a CAD subsystem, port A is on the left side of the CAD subsystem and port B is on the right.
Note: For information on how to show the center of mass for a part or make a part translucent, see Setting Part Properties.
