Maplesoft and VI-Grade partnership makes real-time modeling applications more cost and time effective

Maplesoft™ and VI-grade announced a partnership that brings together the modeling strengths of both companies, enabling users to increase the scope of their solutions and improve the flexibility of their design models. The partnership will see the integration of MapleSim™ models with the VI-CarRealTime framework.

VI-CarRealTime provides a fully validated real-time vehicle simulation environment that can be used by automotive engineers to optimize vehicle designs and control system performance. By using VI-CarRealTime, Vehicle Dynamics engineers can also perform large Design of Experiments (DOE) and multi-objective optimization studies quickly and easily.

The VI-CarRealTime environment provides a readily available full-vehicle model that allows MapleSim users to easily implement their subsystem models without having to build the vehicle model themselves. Also, vehicle chassis parameters are transferred directly from ADAMS/Car™ into VI-CarRealTime, thus providing a way of rapidly integrating ADAMS/Car models with multi-domain system models from MapleSim. MapleSim allows VI-Grade costumers to rapidly develop detailed models of their own vehicle subsystems and replace the default subsystem models in VI-CarRealTime with these models. In this way, the effect of dynamic behavior of that subsystem on the whole vehicle can be assessed and incorporated into the complete HIL application.

SAE Webinar: Physical Models of Automotive Batteries for EV and HEV Applications

The automotive industry is in transformation. New generation vehicles deploying hybrid (HEV), fully electric (EV), and fuel cell powerplants are presenting significant challenges to automotive engineers. The complexity of the automobile has increased exponentially in the past decades with higher performance components and digital control. This has triggered a design revolution in the industry which stresses detailed modeling and simulation steps prior to committing to metal and plastic. With new generation vehicles the need for advanced physical modeling solutions is considerably greater due to increasing system complexity, and the battery is becoming one of the most critical components in alternative powerplant development.

This webinar covers new approaches to modeling and simulation for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and fully electric vehicle (EV) applications with particular emphasis on the development of high fidelity physical models of automotive batteries. Developed as part of the research program for the NSERC/Toyota/Maplesoft Industrial Research Chair for Mathematics-based Modeling and Design, these models will plug into comprehensive system models for HEV and EV applications. Conventional lead-acid, but also NiMH and Lithium battery models will be presented.

Additionally, Dr. McPhee and Dr. Sam Dao will discuss the use of software solutions that deploy symbolic techniques for high-fidelity physical modeling. They have found the symbolic approach to physical modeling to be an effective way to develop simulation models that have very high fidelity, compared to conventional modeling tools, and fast real-time speeds for HIL testing.
