All the masses in a coupled chain of masses are constrained to slide vertically only. They have all have a mass of .1 (kg) and all the springs have a stiffness of 20 (N/m). Let mass-1 be positioned at the origin and all the masses be placed 1 (m) apart. Mass-2 and mass-3 have initial velocities of 2 (m/s) upwards as shown. This will create a transverse wave pulse that will travel along the system and when the pulse hits the fixed end on the opposite side, it will be reflected and inverted. The first and last masses (as shown) are fixed.
