Windows Single User Installation


During the installation, you will need your purchase code (send to you in an email).

To install BlockBuilder for Simulink on your Windows operating system, read and complete the following tasks.

Pre-installation Instructions

  1. Check the Windows System Requirements.
  2. On Windows 2003, Windows 2000, and Windows XP Professional, log on as administrator or ensure that you have administrator privileges.

  3. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  4. This product requires Maple 11 or later.
    To identify your Maple release:

    1. Start Maple.
    2. From the Help menu, select About Maple. The About Maple 11 dialog indicates the release number.
    To update to the latest Maple release:
    From the Tools menu, select Check for Updates and follow the instructions. If that option is dimmed, obtain the update from the downloads section of the Maplesoft Web site.
  5. This product requires MATLAB. Check the MATLAB Requirements.
  6. Close all programs.

Install BlockBuilder for Simulink

  1. Ensure that you have reviewed the Pre-installation Instructions.
  2. To begin installing BlockBuilder for Simulink, choose one of the following:
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions. You can install BlockBuilder for Simulink in either of the following locations.
  4. When prompted, enter the purchase code you were emailed and other required information to activate.
  5. If you activated successfully, you are ready to use BlockBuilder for Simulink. If you had problems activating or chose not to activate during the installation, see Windows Single User Activation.

Linux Single User Installation

During the installation, you will need your purchase code (send to you in an email).

To install BlockBuilder for Simulink on your 32-bit Linux operating system, read and complete the following tasks.

Pre-installation Instructions

  1. Check the Linux System Requirements.
  2. Log on to the account that will own the Maple files. Ensure you have appropriate read and write privileges.
  3. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  4. This product requires Maple 11 or later.
    To identify your Maple release:

    1. Start Maple.
    2. From the Help menu, select About Maple. The About Maple 11 dialog indicates the release number.
    To update to the latest Maple release:

Install BlockBuilder for Simulink

Macintosh Single User Installation

During the installation, you will need your purchase code (send to you in an email).

To install BlockBuilder for Simulink on your Macintosh operating system, read and complete the following tasks.

Pre-Installation Instructions

  1. Check the Macintosh System Requirements.
  2. Ensure that you have administrator privileges.
  3. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  4. This product requires Maple 11 or later.
    To identify your Maple release:

    1. Start Maple.
    2. From the Maple 11 menu, select About Maple 11. The About dialog indicates the release number.
    To update to the latest Maple release:
    From the Tools menu, select Check for Updates and follow the instructions. If that option is dimmed, obtain the update from the downloads section of the Maplesoft Web site.
  5. This product requires MATLAB. Check the MATLAB Requirements.
  6. Close all programs.

Install BlockBuilder for Simulink

  1. Ensure you have reviewed the Pre-installation Instructions.
  2. To begin installing BlockBuilder for Simulink, choose one of the following:
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions. You can install BlockBuilder for Simulink in either of the following locations.
  4. When prompted, enter the purchase code you were emailed and other required information to activate.
  5. If you activated successfully, you are ready to use BlockBuilder for Simulink. If you had problems activating or chose not to activate during the installation, see Macintosh Single User Activation.

Single User Activation

BlockBuilder for Simulink requires activation. You can activate during the installation process or later. If you do not activate during the installation process, complete the following steps to activate.

Windows Single User Activation

  1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  2. From Windows Explorer, find the location of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation. The two default locations are:
  3. Go to the license folder and double-click the activation.bat file.
  4. Enter your purchase code. If you are activating behind a proxy server, ensure that you enter this information before clicking Next.
  5. Enter additional information and click Next.
  6. A license file (BlockBuilder.dat) is saved in the license folder of your installation.

If you experience difficulties with activation, follow the instructions in the readme.txt file in the license folder of your installation. For more information on activation, visit the FAQs page at http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/index.aspx.

Linux Single User Activation

  1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  2. Change directory to the location of your BlockBuilder for Simulink with Maple installation. The two default locations are:
  3. Run the activation script located in the license directory of your installation.
  4. Enter your purchase code. If you are activating behind a proxy server, ensure that you enter this information before clicking Next.
  5. Enter additional information and click Next.
  6. A license file (BlockBuilder.dat) is saved in the license folder of your installation.

Macintosh Single User Activation

  6. A license file (BlockBuilder.dat) is saved in the license folder of your installation.

Windows Installation Using a Network License

To install BlockBuilder for Simulink on your Windows operating system using a network license, read and complete the following tasks.

Linux Installation Using a Network License

To install BlockBuilder for Simulink on your Linux operating systems, read and complete the following tasks.

Macintosh Installation Using a Network License

Network Licensing and Activation

Windows Network Licensing and Activation

Complete the following tasks:
Task 1: Activate the BlockBuilder for Simulink Network license file
  1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  2. Find the location of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation. By default,
    c:\Program Files\Maple 11\toolbox\BlockBuilder
    .
  3. Go to the license folder and double-click the activation.bat file.
  4. Enter your BlockBuilder for Simulink purchase code, hostname, and hostid of your license server. If you are activating behind a proxy server, make sure to enter this information before clicking Next.
  5. Enter additional information and click Next.
  6. A license file (BlockBuilder.lic) is saved in the license folder of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation, c:\Program Files\Maple 11\toolbox\BlockBuilder\license. If you experience difficulties with activation, follow the instructions in the readme.txt file in the license folder of your installation. Task 2: Move the license file

  1. Move the BlockBuilder.lic license file to C:\Program Files\Maple_Network_Tools\activate.

Task 3: Stop the License Manager

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs > Maple Network Tools > LMTools. The LMLTools dialog opens.
  2. Under the Service/License File tab, click Configuration using Services.
  3. Click the Config Services tab. From the Server Name list, select the service currently being used.
  4. Click the Start/Stop/Read tab, then click Stop Server.

Task 4: Start the License Manager Daemons

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs > Maple Network Tools > LMTools. The LMLTools dialog opens.
  2. Under the Service/License File tab, click Configuration using Services.
  3. Click the Config Services tab.
  4. In the Config Services property sheet, enter or browse for the following:
Path to the lmgrd.exe file C:\Program Files\Maple_Network_Tools\FLEXlm\windows\lmgrd.exe
Path to the license file

Enter the path to the directory containing all of the Maple license files. Point to the directory only, not an actual license file.

C:\Program Files\Maple_Network_Tools\activate
Path to the debug log file C:\Program Files\Maple_Network_Tools\FLEXlm\windows\log.txt

  1. For Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows XP Professional, select the Use Services check box (recommended) to set up the daemons as a service. (This option is not required to start the daemons under Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows XP Home.)
  2. To set the daemons to start at boot time (recommended), select the Start Server at Power Up check box.
  3. Enter a name for your service and click Save Service. When prompted to save the service, click Yes.
  4. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab, click Start Server to start the license manager daemons.
You can now use BlockBuilder for Simulink.

UNIX and Linux Network Licensing and Activation

Complete the following tasks:
Task 1: Activate the BlockBuilder for Simulink Network license file
  1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.
  2. Run the activation script located in the license directory of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation, by default /home/$USERNAME/maple11/toolbox/BlockBuilder/license.
  3. Enter your BlockBuilder for Simulink purchase code, hostname, and hostid of your license server. If you are activating behind a proxy server, ensure that you enter this information before clicking Next.
  4. Enter additional information and click Next.
  5. A license file (BlockBuilder.lic) is saved in the license folder of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation, /home/$USERNAME/maple11/toolbox/BlockBuilder/license. If you experience difficulties with activation, follow the instructions in the readme.txt file in the license folder of your installation. Task 2: Move the license file

  1. Move the BlockBuilder.lic license file to /home/$USERNAME/Maple_Network_tools/activate.

Task 3: Stop the License Manager

  1. Navigate to the location of the FLEXlm utilities that are currently being used. By default, /home/$USERNAME/Maple_Network_Tools/FLEXlm.
  2. Enter the command
    ./lmdown
Task 3: Start the License Manager Daemons
  1. On 64-bit Linux platforms, you must enter the following command before starting the license manager daemon:

    Using the C shell: setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1

    Using the Korn or Bourne shell: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1

  2. Navigate to the location of the FLEXlm utilities for your operating system. By default, /home/$USERNAME/Maple_Network_Tools/FLEXlm.
  3. To start the license manager, enter the following command:

./lmgrd -c /license_file_path -l /debug_log

where license_file_path is the full path to the directory containing the license files, by default /home/$USERNAME/Maple_Network_tools/activate.
Note:
Point to the directory only, not an actual license file.

You can now use BlockBuilder for Simulink.

Macintosh Network Licensing and Activation

Complete the following tasks:
Task 1: Activate the BlockBuilder for Simulink Network license file

  1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, please contact your distributor or Maplesoft customer service.

  3. Enter your BlockBuilder for Simulink purchase code, hostname, and hostid of your license server.  If you are activating behind a proxy server, ensure that you enter this information before clicking Next.
  4. Enter additional information and click Next.
  5. A license file (BlockBuilder.lic) is saved the license directory of your BlockBuilder for Simulink installation, /Library/Frameworks/Maple.framework/Versions/11/toolbox/BlockBuilder/license. If you experience difficulties with activation, follow the instructions in the readme.txt file in the license folder of your installation. Task 2: Move the license file

Getting Started

        See the Maple help page BlockBuilder for Simulink/setup for instructions to set up the Maple-MATLAB link and the MATLAB mex compiler.

This product can only be used in the Standard Worksheet Interface.

Windows

        Double-click the BlockBuilder for Simulink shortcut on your Desktop.

UNIX/Linux

  1. Check the stack size. 8 MB is recommended. Unlimited is not recommended.
    in csh:
    limit stacksize

    in bash:
    ulimit -s

  2. Set the stack size to 8 MB.
    in csh:
    limit stacksize 8192

    in bash:
    ulimit -s 8192

  3. Start Maple 11 Standard.
  4. Open the BlockBuilder for Simulink.mw file in the BlockBuilder for Simulink installation directory.

Macintosh

        Double-click the BlockBuilder for Simulink shortcut on your Desktop.
