Running a Simulation

To run a simulation you first must provide parameter values for the model by specifying the duration time of the simulation and the specific model settings for the solver, simulation engine, and 3-D visualization.  The settings are accessed under the Simulation Settings tab and, for multibody models, the Multibody Settings tab.

To run a simulation:

1. 

In the model workspace toolbar, click Main ( ) to browse to the top level of the model.

Click the Simulation Settings tab ( ), located at the right of the Model Workspace,  and specify the simulation values for your specific model in the following sections:

• 

Simulation

• 

Advanced Simulation

3. 

(For multibody models only) Click the Multibody Settings tab ( ), and specify the multibody and visualization settings:

• 

Animation

• 

Multibody

• 

Visualization

4. 

In the Main Toolbar, click Run Simulation ( ). If you are using a snapshot this icon changes to . Alternatively, from the File menu, select Simulate.

The simulation starts. The Console pane shows simulation progress messages. See the Notes for more details on the Console pane and simulation progress.

Click Show Simulation Results ( ). (You can do this even before the simulation finishes.)

The Analysis window comes into focus, with the Simulation Results tab automatically selected. For larger simulations you will see a live update of your plots and the 3-D animation (for 3-D models).

Notes:

• 

The Console pane located below the Model Workspace displays the status of the MapleSim engine as it generates the mathematical model. Messages are grouped into collapsible sections according to the stage of the simulation (for example, Generating Equations or Processing Equations). When you run a new simulation, the messages from the previous simulation are collapsed into their own section. Click Clear ( ) to clear all previous progress messages in the Console pane. You can also copy the progress messages to your clipboard by highlighting the text in the Console pane and then selecting Edit > Copy from the main menu. You can now paste the progress messages into another document.

If you want to cancel a simulation before it is complete, click Stop ( ) in either the Main Toolbar or the Simulation Results tab.

The Simulation Results button in the Main Toolbar indicates the status of the simulation results:

– 

: Simulation is complete and new results are available.

– 

: You can view a live update of your plots and 3-D animation as the simulation progresses.

– 

: No new simulation results are available.

• 

You can view the Simulation Results tab at any time, even if your results are not ready to be visualized. To view the Simulation Results tab, do any of the following:

– 

Click Show Simulation Results ( ).

– 

Press the F6 key.

– 

From the View menu, select Show Simulation Results....
