Student[Precalculus][FunctionSlopeTutor] - estimate the slope of a curve by displaying a sequence of secant lines

 Calling Sequence FunctionSlopeTutor(f, pt)

Parameters

f - (optional) algebraic expression in at most one variable pt - (optional) constant, or expression of the form name=constant, where name is the indeterminate in f. The default is 0

Description

 • The FunctionSlopeTutor(f) command launches a tutor interface that estimates the slope of the curve f at the point 0, by displaying a sequence of secant lines.
If f is not specified, FunctionSlopeTutor uses a default function.
 • The FunctionSlopeTutor(f, pt) command launches a tutor interface that estimates the slope of the curve f at the point pt, by displaying a sequence of secant lines.
 • If an expression in one variable is specified, the tutor replaces the variable name with x.

Examples

 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{Student}[\mathrm{Precalculus}]\right):$
 > $\mathrm{FunctionSlopeTutor}\left(\right)$
 > $\mathrm{FunctionSlopeTutor}\left({x}^{3}+3{x}^{2}+x-3\right)$
 > $\mathrm{FunctionSlopeTutor}\left({x}^{3}+3{x}^{2}+x-3,x=2\right)$
