Activating the Plot Builder

Creating the Plot

Activating the Plot Builder

You can activate the plot builder from the Tools menu or by right-clicking (Control-click, Macintosh) an expression and selecting Plots from the context-sensitive menu.

Using the Context Menu

To activate the interactive plot builder using the context menu:

1.

Select an expression in 2-D math input or output.  Ensure that the entire expression is selected.

2.

Right-click the selection. A context-sensitive menu appears.

3.

Select Plots, and then Plot Builder. The Interactive Plot Builder: Select Plot Type dialog appears.

Using the Tools Menu

To activate the interactive plot builder using the Tools menu:

1.

From the Tools menu, select Assistants, and then Plot Builder....

2.

The Interactive Plot Builder: Specify Expressions dialog is displayed.  Click Add in the Expressions region to add an expression to the list.

3.

The Add/Edit Expression dialog opens. Enter an expression and click Accept. Note that the variable is displayed in the Variables region below.

4.

Click OK after the expressions and variables are defined. The Interactive Plot Builder: Select Plot Type dialog appears.

Creating the Plot

To select the plot type:

1.

From the Select Plot Type drop-down list, select a general class of plot.  The Select Plot list displays the plots available for this class.

2.

Select the specific type of plot desired; for example, for a two-dimensional plot, select the 2-D plot list item.

3.

To continue, click Options. The corresponding dialog opens. For example, if you selected 2-D plot, the 2-D Plot dialog appears.

4.

From the various drop-down fields, select the appropriate features for your plot. Note: To reset the plot options in the plot dialog, click the Reset button. To return to the Interactive Plot Builder: Select Plot Type  dialog, click the Back button.

5.

After you have selected various options, click the Preview button to view the plot in a dialog and verify that you have set all options correctly.  Click Done to close the preview dialog.

6.

When you are satisfied with the plot, click the Plot button. Maple generates the plot and displays it in the worksheet. If you wish to have the plot command returned instead of the plot, click Command. You can also have the command returned by selecting the On 'Plot' return plot command check box in the Interactive Plot Builder: Select Plot Type dialog. With this check box selected, the command is returned upon clicking the Plot button.
