The Meter-Kilogram-Second (MKS) System of Units

Description

 • The MKS system of units has the meter, kilogram, and second as its base units.  Although the MKS system does not include units of electricity or magnetism, the SI system, which is also based on the meter, kilogram, and second, does.
 • When used in conjunction with the UseSystem command, the MKS system sets the following units for the given dimensions.

Dimension Name Unit Name length meter mass kilogram time second force newton energy joule power watt pressure pascal plane angle radian solid angle steradian

Examples

Notes:

 – To enter a unit in 2-D Math input, select the unit from the appropriate Units palette. If the unit you want is not there, select $\mathrm{unit}$ and then enter the unit.
 – In Maple 2015 and later versions, the double brackets around a unit are not displayed unless you are editing the unit.
 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{Units}[\mathrm{Standard}]\right):$
 > $\mathrm{Units}[\mathrm{UseSystem}]\left('\mathrm{MKS}'\right)$
 > $5⟦\frac{'\mathrm{kg}''m'}{'s'}⟧$
 ${5}{}⟦\frac{{\mathrm{kg}}{}{m}}{{s}}⟧$ (1)
 > $\frac{}{⟦'s'⟧}$
 ${5}{}⟦{N}⟧$ (2)
 > $\frac{}{{⟦'\mathrm{cm}'⟧}^{2}}$
 ${50000}{}⟦{\mathrm{Pa}}⟧$ (3)
