Distance between Two Lines in 3-D

Description Measure the distance between two lines in three-dimensional space.

Define the first line by specifying two different points on the line.

Specify a point on the line.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{point}\right]\left(a,{2}{,}{4}{,}{0}\right)$
 ${a}$ (1)

Specify another point on the line.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{point}\right]\left(b,{0}{,}{2}{,}{-}{1}\right)$
 ${b}$ (2)

Define the first line using the two points.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{line}\right]\left(m,\left[a,b\right]\right)$
 ${m}$ (3)

Define the second line by specifying a point and a vector.

Specify a point on the line.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{point}\right]\left(p,{-}{1}{,}{0}{,}{3}\right)$
 ${p}$ (4)

Enter a vector as a list.

 > $\left[{1}{,}{-}{1}{,}{2}\right]$
 $\left[{1}{,}{-}{1}{,}{2}\right]$ (5)

Define the second line using the point and the vector.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{line}\right]\left(n,\left[p,\right]\right)$
 ${n}$ (6)

Measure the distance between the two lines.

 > $\mathrm{geom3d}\left[\mathrm{distance}\right]\left(m,n\right)$
 $\frac{{3}}{{2}}{}\sqrt{{2}}$ (7)
