Numeric.isShort - check if the value stored in the Numeric fits into a Java short

Calling Sequence

boolean isShort() throws MapleException

The isShort function returns true if the value represented by the current Numeric object is an integer small enough to fit into a Java short. Otherwise, the isShort function returns  false.

If isShort returns true, a call to one of shortValue, intValue or longValue completes without error.

class Example

    public static void main( String notused[] ) throws MapleException

    String mapleArgs[];

    Engine engine;

    Numeric n;

    short s;

    mapleArgs = new String[1];

    mapleArgs[0] = "java";

    engine = new Engine( mapleArgs, new EngineCallBacksDefault(),

        null, null );

    n = (Numeric)engine.evaluate( "2^18:" );

    System.out.println( n.isShort() );

    catch ( MapleException me )

        System.out.println( me.getMessage() );

    n = (Numeric)engine.evaluate( "2^14:" );

    System.out.println( n.isShort() );

    s = n.shortValue();

    System.out.println( s );

Executing this code produces the following output.

Error, value does not fit in integer[2]
