How do I get Maple to show me the steps of a solution, not just the answer?
Though Maple usually returns the final answer of an operation, there are built-in tutors which break the problem down into steps. You can use these tutors to work through a problem a step at a time, ask Maple for the next step in a solution, or ask Maple to show you all the steps at once. Examples of this style of tutor are the Integration Methods tutor (Tools > Tutors > Calculus - Single Variable > Integration Methods) and the Gaussian Elimination Tutor (Tools > Tutors > Linear Algebra > Gaussian Elimination). Use the Tools > Tutors menu to access all the tutors.
The following commands will also be of help to you to view the solutions steps of certain limit, differential, and integration problems in the Student[Calculus1] package:

Student[Calculus1][ShowSolution]: Type ?Student/Calculus1/ShowSolution; into Maple or click here: http://www.maplesoft.com/support/help/Maple/view.aspx?path=Student%2fCalculus1%2fSingleStepOverview
SingleStepOverview: Type ?Student/Calculus1/SingleStepOverview into; Maple or click here: http://www.maplesoft.com/support/help/Maple/view.aspx?path=Student%2fCalculus1%2fSingleStepOverview
For solving equations stepwise, you can use the Equation Manipulator. Enter the equation to be solved, then from the Context Menu (right click on the equation) pick the Solve option to get the solution of the equation as a starter.
Then go back and right-click again, this time selecting “Manipulate Equation.” The Equation Manipulator will launch with the given equation in it. Direct Maple to solve the equation stepwise by indicating which steps to perform. Having already seen the correct answer, it will be clear if the steps taken actually lead to the solution or not.
A recorded demo of this process can be found on the Maplesoft web site. The following link will take you to the page where the demo can be accessed.
In the section “Academic Webinars” select “Clickable Calculus: Pre-Calculus, and Calculus of One and Several Variables.”
You can also download an interactive Maple worksheet that uses the commands listed above, and several other commands that show solution steps, here:
