Maple 8: Installation and Troubleshooting

When I try starting Maple on my Red Hat 9.0 machine, I get the following errors:

/usr/local/maple8/bin.IBM_INTEL_LINUX/mserver: relocation error: /usr/local/maple8/bin.IBM_INTEL_LINUX/libmaple.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

What can I do?

Please note that since Red Hat 9.0 was released after Maple 7 and 8, it is not an officially tested and supported platform. However, we do have some Red Hat 9.0 users who have reported that the following workaround allowed them to successfully run Maple 7 and 8:

Before starting xmaple or maple, execute the following:

(in bash:) export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
(in tcsh:) setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1
