Install WebEQ Version 3.0 for Maple™

To avoid delays while the Math Viewer applet downloads, install WebEQ³ for Maple.

Install MathML Viewer for Viewing in Internet Explorer 5 or Higher

Prerequisite

If you are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x, you must install the Java Plug-in.
To install the Java Plug-in now, visit the Sun Microsystems Java Web site at http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html.

Installing the MathML Viewer on Your Local Machine

Windows

  1. To install the MathML Viewer on your local machine, visit the Maplesoft™ Web site at http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/ieinstall.html.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Restart your browser.

Note: To successfully install the JAR archive, you need to enable both Java and JavaScript³.


Macintosh OS_ X
You must install the MathML Viewer manually.

  1. Download the jar file. http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/MMLViewerApplet.jar.
  2. Place the .jar file in the ~/Library/Java/Extensions folder. This gives Internet Explorer, along with Safari³ and OmniWeb_ 5 access to the MathML applet.
    Note: "~" represents the home directory of the user installing the file. This makes the Viewer available to that user only. To install the Viewer for all users of the system, place the .jar file in "/Library/Java/Extensions" (that is, the same path name, but located at the root of the file system.) You may require administrator privileges to install the file for all users.
  3. In Internet Explorer, select Explorer, Preferences, and then Java. Add the MMLViewerApplet.jar file to your classpath.
  4. Restart your browser.



Install MathML Viewer for Viewing in Netscape


Netscape 4.x


Netscape_ 4.7.7 (or later) is recommened, as earlier versions of Netscape have some display problems with the applet.

Windows

  1. To install the MathML Viewer on your local machine visit the Maplesoft Web site at http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/MMLViewerInstall.jar.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Restart your browser.

Note: To successfully install the JAR archive, you need to enable both Java and JavaScript.


Macintosh OS X
Users and users with machines behind proxy servers or firewalls may need to install manually.

  1. Download and install the MRJ plugin from http://www.mozilla.org/oji/MRJPlugin.html.
  2. Obtain the MMLViewerApplet.jar file from the Maplesoft site http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/MMLViewerApplet.jar.
  3. Save the WebEQ for Maple JAR archive to your local disk.
  4. Move this file to the Netscape Communicator: Plugins folder.
  5. Restart your browser.

UNIX

  1. Obtain the MMLViewerApplet.jar file from the Maplesoft site http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/MMLViewerApplet.jar.
  2. Move the file to the ".../Program/Java/Download" directory of your Netscape installation or your .netscape directory.
  3. Restart your browser.

Netscape 6.x

  1. Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 (JRE) is required to run WebEQ from Netscape 6.x. If you already have JRE 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 installed continue with step 2. To download and install JRE 1.4.1 or 1.4.2, visit the Sun Microsystems J2SE³ 1.4.2 Downloads Web site at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
  2. Download the WebEQApplet.jar from the Maplesoft Web site http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/WebEQApplet.jar and click Save. The Save File dialog opens. Save the file on your Desktop.
  3. After the WebEQApplet.jar file has finished downloading to your Desktop, close your browser.
  4. Because it is possible to have multiple copies of the Sun JRE installed, you must place a copy of WebEQApplet.jar into each of the following locations on your computer if they exist.

Testing WebEQ for Maple
Once the installation is finished, verify that WebEQ for Maple is working properly by visiting the Test Page http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/test.html.
