The Maplesoft-MAA Placement Test Suite 3.0 contains many new features that will assist you in the delivery, analysis and administration of your placement tests.
Calculator-based Tests
The calculator-based tests from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) are now available for on-line delivery through the Placement Test Suite. With these tests, you have the option of allowing your students to use calculators while solving the problems. The calculator-based tests contain problems similar to those seen in typical classrooms where calculator use in encouraged, while maintaining the stringent statistical controls and high content validity of the traditional MAA placement tests.
- Subjects: Arithmetic and Skills, Basic Algebra, Algebra, and Calculus Readiness
- Four parallel forms of each test are available
- Each test available as a built-in assignment
- Tested, reviewed and approved by the MAA
Analysis
Improvements to the infrastructure provide more options for analyzing the test results and providing feedback to students.
- Access scores for individual questions as well as for the assignment as a whole
- See grade reports on groups of questions selected from a test
- Get a breakdown of the number of students that chose each answer for a particular question
- Customize feedback when setting a passing score. Schools can recommend the class in which to register based on the student’s result or even recommend a subsequent test that the student should take
Administration
The administration of the placement tests has been simplified in this release. Highlights include:
- Single sign-on. Once a student is logged into the system, they have immediate access to the appropriate tests. There is no need to log in multiple times
- Force-grade open assignments. Schools can force-grade assignments at the end of an orientation session to ensure they have captured the results of all students before doing their analysis
- Tighter administration controls prevent students from creating multiple accounts through the use of a student roster for enrollment
- The use of student rosters provides tighter administration controls and prevents students from creating multiple accounts
