What is the Difference between MapleConnect
and ...
Many Maple users have experience with
the traditional relationship between an author and a
print publisher. In spirit, MapleConnect is a software
publishing mechanism, but there are important differences
between MapleConnect and a traditional publisher.
- There is greater flexibility in
the types of eligible products. A MapleConnect product
can be code, curriculum material, electronic books,
a collection of Maplet applications, and services.
In fact, any offering that helps others get the most
from Maplesoft products are candidates.
- There is no judgment made on target
markets. Whether there are one hundred or one hundred
thousand potential buyers, the product can still be
a MapleConnect-eligible product. The decision whether
the market is large enough is exclusively yours.
- The royalty model favors you, the
developer. Traditional book royalties rarely exceed
10% for the author. The standard MapleConnect royalty
rate is 50% for the developer.

Other
Third-party Developer Programs |
Software companies with development or programmable products
often provide resources and a general framework to create
new tools based on the core products. Often
these are called "Developer Programs", "Third-party Programs", or "ISV - Independent
Software Vendor" programs. MapleConnect is different. In addition to the support
resources, MapleConnect provides a direct sales channel that guarantees that
approved software products reach the market in a timely fashion. MapleConnect
removes many of the hurdles that face new product developers such as e-commerce,
distribution infrastructure, and many marketing issues. Most other developer
programs provide the initial support then leave you to figure out everything
else.

The Maple
Application Center |
MapleConnect is complementary to the Maple
Application Center. We believe that there will always be a need for an
archive of free product resources and the Application Center will continue to
procure and deliver these resources. MapleConnect offers a distinct option to
developers and content authors who wish to invest the additional energy and time
required to move their work to a commercial level. Overall, the Maple user community
benefits from having the choice of a wide range of free content through the Application
Center, and a select group of specialized MapleConnect products that offer quality,
support, and the features of a commercial product.
