Accelerating Mechatronics Applications with MapleSim and Symbolic Computation

      <itunes:summary>
One of the unique aspects of MapleSim is its integration with Maplesoft's symbolic computational engine, Maple. By leveraging Maple's symbolic capabilities, MapleSim is not only able to automatically formulate a concise set of governing equations, but it is also able to transform these equations into efficient real-time code. This presentation will detail how the use of symbolics benefits this process, and how this approach differs from numerical techniques used by other software tools. Specific applications of these techniques to mechatronic systems will be used to demonstrate their effectiveness. As well, a case study showing the entire model-development-to-HIL process for a vehicle stability controller will be presented.
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
MapleSim is quickly being adopted by the automotive, aerospace and other key industries as an essential tool to accelerate both the plant modeling process and real time execution for HIL testing. MapleSim provides flexible physical modeling tools to reduce the plant development time from months to days. For HIL, MapleSim-generated models can increase real time performance to the point that previously infeasible applications finally become feasible. Collectively, these benefits have been recognized by the engineering community looking for innovative modeling techniques to overcome emerging challenges such as green engineering or “X by wire” applications (automotive). This Webinar introduces the core MapleSim techniques for achieving these results. Examples and demonstrations adapted from real industrial applications, as well as a look inside the technology that powers these advantages will be presented.
</itunes:summary>

This webinar, presented by Dr. Robert Lopez, Maple Fellow and Emeritus Professor from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, will provide you with tips and techniques that will help you get started with Maple. Dr. Lopez is an award winning educator in mathematics and is the author of several books. For over a decade, Dr. Lopez has also been a visionary figure in the introduction of math technology into undergraduate education.

In this webinar, Dr. Lopez will show you how to begin using your evaluation copy of Maple, a powerful general purpose math tool designed to provide an environment for educators and students to explore and 'do' math. Used creatively, Maple can help students learn better and faster. It can illuminate theory, clarify the abstract and give form and substance to general principles.
</itunes:summary>

E-Symposium: The Evolution of Multi-Domain Modeling and Simulation

      <itunes:summary>
During this webinar, Dr. Richard Gran will discuss the importance of the new multi-domain techniques that are being developed in the industry today. He will draw on his past experiences to illustrate the evolution of multi-domain modeling and simulation over 5 generations. Examples he will discuss include the Lunar Excursion Module from the 1960s; the Tokamk Fusion Test Reactor Hardware from the 1970s; the X-29, a forward swept wing aircraft design from the 1980s; a magnetically levitated train design from the 1990s; and a home heating system model from the current decade.

Formerly with Grumman Corp. as Director of Advanced Concepts, Dr. Gran was a member of the Control System design team that created the digital flight control system for the Apollo Lunar Module. He is presently President and CEO of the Mathematical Analysis Company where he has had extensive long-term contracts for the US space and defense community in the areas of system simulation and control design.
</itunes:summary>
