Simulating Clearpath Robots in MapleSim
May 25, 2015
Robotics Tomorrow
A couple challenges with robotics is that robots are expensive and they usually depend on batteries. What if you want to run an experiment with 100 robots, running for 10 hours? To help answer this question, ROS has built in support for robot simulation in the form of Gazebo. While this works quite well, it is currently unable to simulate physical properties like batteries, temperature, surface roughness. If your robotics research depends on accurate models, you may want to consider looking at MapleSim 2015 – a high performance physical modeling and simulation tool developed by Maplesoft.
Renault uses Maple to develop new Motor for full electric vehicle
May 20, 2015
Process and Control Today
In order to successfully enter the growing electric vehicle market, Renault wanted to create a new motor design that would handle driving pleasure and mass production requirements more effectively than existing designs and processes. Using Maple to model wedge deviation under centrifugal and thermal loads, the team optimized a viable set of dimensions for the new shape of a slot wedge, and also decreased the mass of the rotor to increase the overall efficiency of the motor.
New Product from Maplesoft Offers Easy Web Deployment of MapleSim Simulations
May 20, 2015
Virtual Strategy Magazine
Maplesoft's release of MapleSim 2015 includes the latest member to the MapleSim family: the MapleSim Server. With the MapleSim Server, engineers can share their applications with other engineers in the organization, even if they do not have MapleSim. MapleSim itself has also been enhanced to include powerful new tools that help engineers manage large models efficiently, and features to allow engineers to search their models.
Real-Time Battery Modeling in HiL testing of Battery Management Systems
April 16, 2015
John Day's Automotive Electronics
For testing ESS Battery Management Systems (BMS), the use of “virtual” batteries is proving to be an effective alternative to the use of real batteries. They allow the engineer to avoid the risks of damage to the batteries – and subsequent costs – while testing and optimizing the BMS design in a close-to-reality loading environment. Maplesoft partnered with ControlWorks, Inc. to produce a turn-key BMS system, resulting in a battery model capable of being configured to represent a stack of up to 144 cells that can be connected in any combination of parallel and series networks.
Maplesoft's Annual Digital Testing and Assessment Summit to Examine Trends in Online Education
June 1, 2015
Digital CAD
Maplesoft's annual international Maple T.A. User Summit is to be held in New York City from June 15 to 17, 2015. The Summit will bring together Maple T.A. users and experts to discuss and deliberate on trends in online STEM education, and technology platforms suitable to move courses, homework and tests online. Attendees will hear from pioneering users in e-learning who have successfully implemented these technologies.
