ICP for Maple Slashes Cost of System Modeling and Controller Development
WATERLOO, CANADA, April 7, 2005 – Maplesoft™, the leading provider of high-performance software tools for engineering, science and mathematics, announced today ICP (Intelligent Controller Parameterization) for Maple, a suite of Rapid Control Development tools. ICP for Maple, the first product in Maplesoft’s MapleConnect Premier Series, enables easy identification of non-linear engineering systems and automatic development of the required controller structure and parameters to achieve design objectives.
Designed by German control engineers at ExpertControl GmbH, ICP for Maple constitutes a one-step solution for users who need high precision models of existing dynamic systems, particularly for control design. By simply stimulating a system with an input signal, users can capture the system output and generate continuous laplace transfer functions that fully characterize the system across different operating points. This is a major advance on other system identification tools that produce discrete z transfer functions that are only usable at the sample frequency the data was captured. Given the system model, ICP then applies robust algorithms to the plant transfer function(s) to generate robust controller structures and optimal controller parameters without the need to be familiar with the underlying control theory.
Using this approach has already proven to dramatically reduce the time and cost of model and controller development, particularly in aerospace and automotive applications.
ICP can be invoked from within Maple, the most powerful and intuitive tool for solving complex mathematical problems and creating rich, executable technical applications. The resulting transfer functions can be used directly in a Maple worksheet for further work, such as frequency and sensitivity analysis.
"We are very happy to launch ICP for Maple as the first product in our MapleConnect Premier line," said Jim Cooper, CEO of Maplesoft. "Our aim is to put the knowledge of some of the most respected experts in many technical fields into the hands of our users in the form of cost-effective products like ICP for Maple. ExpertControl is an acknowledged leader in control design in Europe and North America, developing solutions that solve some real and costly problems. Our users can look forward to some dramatic productivity gains with ICP for Maple, along with other engineering design tools we are planning to launch under the MapleConnect Premier banner over the next few months."
ICP for Maple has many applications in industry segments such as aerospace, automotive, biotech, chemical, defense, drives, pharmaceutical, power plants, power systems, process, propulsion, robotics and transportation. The suite of Rapid Control Development tools is designed for control, electrical, mechanical and process engineers who do modeling and/or control algorithm development for various real world systems and components and are involved in simulation, controls, HiL (Hardware-In-The-Loop), ECUs (Electrical Control Units), and test cell automation. ICP for Maple can also benefit professors teaching control, electrical and mechanical engineering.
