Jim Cooper to Discuss Harnessing the Power of Math in Supercharging the Product Development Cycle
WATERLOO, CANADA, February 7, 2005 – Maplesoft™, the leading provider of high-performance software tools for engineering, science and mathematics, announced today that President and CEO Jim Cooper will speak at the 3rd Annual Fast Product Development for the R&D Community Conference in Toronto. Mr. Cooper’s presentation, which will be held Tuesday, February 22 at 4:30 p.m., will focus on harnessing the power of math to supercharge the product development cycle.
Good design matters. While less than 10 percent of all project funds are spent in the design stage, 85 percent of all costs are determined by decisions made in that stage. Consequently, investment in design brings 2½ to 20 times greater ROI than investment in any other product stage.
"Despite the critical and time intensive nature of research and development, engineers traditionally have used a limited set of technical productivity tools," said Mr. Cooper. "That is changing. Modern tools, such as interactive math software, make it easy to not only find a design solution, but the mathematically optimized best solution. By also documenting the results and capturing the thinking and analysis, interactive math software enables companies to leverage and reuse their design knowledge when developing multiple products. I look forward to discussing how this powerful tool can be unleashed as a corporate asset to drive quality, competitiveness and overall corporate performance."
The 3rd Annual Fast Product Development for the R&D Community Conference, which will be held February 21-23 in the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, is designed for business unit leaders, directors and CEOs. The conference will feature many industry leaders who have tackled the tough issues and challenges of streamlining their internal R&D processes. In addition to Maplesoft, other companies scheduled to present include Xerox Research Centre of Canada, Bombardier Aerospace, Ernst & Young, and Open Text.
